Setting the threshold against your own numbers
A free-delivery threshold does two jobs: it lifts average order value, and it takes the delivery cost out of the decision at the moment it is being made.
Set it too low and you give away margin on orders that would have converted anyway. Set it too high and nobody reaches for it. The useful range is roughly 1.3× to 1.6× your current average order value — far enough to move behaviour, close enough to feel achievable.
Set it per zone. Free above AED 499 in Dubai does not have to mean free above AED 499 in Fujairah, which costs meaningfully more to reach.
